OPEI of Canada
Visit www.opeic.ca for more information.
In 2012, OPEI created a Canadian entity — OPEI of Canada (OPEIC), a Canadian federal not-for-profit corporation.
This move was prompted when the British Columbia Recycling Regulation mandated manufacturer responsibility for product recovery and recycling which includes outdoor power equipment.
On behalf of its members, OPEI stepped in and developed a Stewardship Plan to comply with the requirements, helping make sure compliance was not too onerous or difficult for the industry. Instead of each company having to build their own waste infrastructure, companies doing business in British Columbia can now rely on OPEIC. See the website opeic.ca for more information on the British Columbia Recycling Program.
As a result, OPEIC is now on the front lines of representing our members when it comes to a host of issues including recycling, emissions and other regulatory developments across the Canadian provinces.
