ANSI facilitates the development of American National Standards (ANS) by accrediting the procedures of standards developing organizations (SDOs). Accreditation by ANSI signifies that the procedures used by the standards body in connection with the development of American National Standards meet the Institute?s essential requirements for openness, balance, consensus and due process.

OPEI is an accredited Standards Developing Organization (SDO) responsible for the ANSI standards listed on this website. OPEI conducts the standards development in full compliance with the ANSI Essential Requirements.

OPEI is also the administrator for two Techical Advisory Groups to ISO, the International Organization for Standardization, representing the U.S. manufacturers in the developement of international standards for hand held and ground-supported outdoor power equipment.
