I’m pleased to announce the preliminary schedule for the 60th Anniversary OPEI Annual Meeting to be held at the Broadmoor in Colorado Springs, June 20-22. All registration pricing has been reduced and additional discounts added for multiple company attendees.

We’ve made a number of changes to the program structure and session timelines. The annual meeting will have a stronger business focus with relevant sessions and speakers. We will have unique entertainment in a spectacular natural setting and we will announce substantial organizational meeting changes for our 2013 Annual Meeting.

In an effort to more fully recognize our Associate Members and the value they bring to the organization, the OPEI Board of Directors has approved the addition of an Associate Member to the OPEI Board of Directors and has included an Associates Recognition Luncheon as part of the Annual Meeting schedule of events. Speaking at this Associates Recognition Luncheon this year are Mike and Dan Ariens, father and son, both past OPEI Board Chairman, on the industry’s and OPEI’s evolution these past sixty years. Our new Associate Board member will be announced at the Annual Meeting.

Major presenters this year include Nick Bilton and Howard Fineman. Nick is the lead technology writer for the New York Times and book author of “I Live in the Future & Here’s How it Works”. A reporter, hardware hacker, UI specialist and technologist, Bilton will focus on the future of technology trends and how this evolution affects our day-to-day lives. Howard Fineman, Editorial Director of The Huffington Post Media Group, political analyst for NBC and MSNBC, former senior Washington correspondent and columnist for “Newsweek”, will present his insights on the dynamic political climate of this presidential election year.

We will have a business session on fuels and power sources that address the rapidly evolving fuels marketplace. Presenters include Mike McAdams, President, Advanced Biofuels Association, Pat Gruber, CEO of butanol producer GEVO and Todd Teske, CEO of Briggs & Stratton on the company’s engine testing on butanol. Roy Willis, President of the Propane Education Research Council will present on propane as an emerging fuel option for OPE.

Presenters from Planalytics will discuss the Business Weather Intelligence approach and offer insightful analysis that is relevant to smart business practices and our industry.

Outdoor Power Equipment manufacturers are now responsible for the recovery and recycling of their products sold in the Canadian Province of British Columbia through an extended producer responsibility model. It’s likely that this model will spread to other Canadian Provinces. OPEI has now incorporated OPEI of Canada to interface with Canadian governmental and tax authorities on the program’s implementation. OPEI has contracted with Product Care Association (PCA) to manage our collection and recycling efforts in the Province. We will hear from Mark Kurschner, President of PCA, on the OPE program and will address questions for those doing business in Canada and those looking to expand in to Canada.

Sponsorship opportunities are available for those wishing to financially support the Annual Meeting and enhance visibility to attendees. Special recognition will be given to sponsors. Please contact me or Marla Popkin at OPEI for details.

Additional details on the entire meeting program, including social and networking opportunities will be forthcoming, so please stay tuned. Please find hotel information and registration form attached.

We look forward to hosting you at the 60th Anniversary OPEI Annual Meeting.

Kris Kiser. OPEI President & CEO
