OPEI Committee Information

OPEI has many committees formed to serve, support, and shape our industry. Committees range from association management for our executive leadership, to legislative and regulatory issues, technical and safety standards and market data. These committees are a primary benefit of OPEI membership, providing opportunities to be involved in very vital leadership roles. Please contact OPEI committees represent the interests of both hand-held and ground supported equipment manufacturers. Electric Products Committee

The electric products standards development component of the OPEI member benefit package is driven by active member participation in consensus committee activities. Robotic Electric Lawnmower Committee (60335-2-107)

The Robotic Electric Lawnmower committee oversees all activities associated with the development and maintenance of the ANSI/OPEI 60335-2-107 standard and all robotic electric lawnmower equipment specific activities.

Chairpersons' Committee

The Chairpersons’ Committee members include committee chairs and vice-chairs. The committee’s purpose is to advise OPEI staff on strategic planning of standards development work, communicate to OPEI staff and each other mutual challenges faced, offer and formulate solutions to such challenges, consider technical/safety/compliance issues common to all OPEI standards, garner further information on creating unified standards, meet educational needs identified by the Committee, such as meetings w/ANSI, other standard development bodies, etc. and facilitate and improve communications among committees.

Electric Products Committee

The Electric Products Committee studies and recommends policy to the Board of Directors regarding OPEI's technical activities and overall technical programs for electric lawn and garden equipment, including research programs to be conducted by groups within or outside the industry, studies and monitors technical matters and development that affect the electric outdoor power equipment industry.  The OPEI Electric Products Committee provides expertise to the U.S. Technical Advisory Group to IEC TC 116 MT 3, as well as addressing the electric products standards' needs of OPEI member companies.

Engine and Fuels Committee (EFC)

The Engine and Fuels Committee oversees all activities associated with emissions and fuels, including alternate fuels. This committee serves as the liaison organization between the industry, EPA, CARB and other domestic and international environmental regulatory agencies, develops necessary programs to reduce emissions from lawn and garden engines/equipment and associated products and provides liaison with other organizations such as EMA and Euromot on engine emission and fuels related activities. When necessary, recommends policy direction on issues to the Board of Directors.

Ethanol Education, Communications and PR Task Group

The Ethanol Education, Communications and PR Task Group reviews considerations for the development and use of education and communication materials related to fuels with ethanol content above 10% by volume. Communication and education focus includes consideration of consumers, dealers and retailers.

Ground Supported Products Committee (GSPC)

The GSPC studies and recommends policy to the Board of Directors regarding OPEI's technical activities and overall technical program for ground-supported lawn and garden equipment, including research programs to be conducted by groups within or outside the industry; studies and monitors technical matters and developments that affect the ground-supported outdoor power equipment industry.

Handheld Products Committee (HHPC)

The HHPC studies and recommends policy to the Board of Directors regarding OPEI's technical activities and overall technical programs for handheld lawn and garden equipment, including research programs to be conducted by groups within or outside the industry, studies and monitors technical matters and developments that affect the handheld outdoor power equipment industry.

Legal & Regulatory Compliance Committee (LRC)

The LRC Committee shares information, provides advice and recommendations and identifies new developments relating to legislation, regulation, and codes and standards activities.   The Committee will identify legal, regulatory, and code issues that may affect the industry, review and analyze the impact of the issues identified, make recommendations for position and strategy to the OPEI Board on matters which may have a significant impact on the industry, and assist with implementation of the strategy approved by the Board.  The LRC may also recommend that OPEI not pursue, or limit actions related to, a particular matter.

Market Statistics Committee (MSC)

The MSC studies and recommends policy to the Board of Directors regarding OPEI's compilation of market and statistical information, conducts and distributes routine and special statistical and economic studies for the membership, reviews and recommends the dissemination of data compiled by government agencies, by other outside agencies, or in cooperation with either government or outside agencies, develops market and statistical information periodically for external dissemination, and as directed by the Board of Directors, engages in market forecast studies.
